Upgrade from penDirector 1.x to 2.x
Question
I'm going to upgrade from penDirector 1.x to 2.x. Are there any precautions I should be aware of?
Answer
If, for some reason, the old driver is not uninstalled with penDirector 1.x and/or penUpgrader 1.x then the driver must be uninstalled manually. This description is based on Microsoft Windows 7, but would be similar on Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Vista.
Before you uninstall the driver manually, make sure penDirector and/or penUpgrader are uninstalled and that you have Administrator privileges.
Follow these steps to uninstall the driver:
- Dock the digital pen in the cradle.
- Open the 'Computer Management' console from the 'Control panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management'.
- Expand 'Universal Serial Bus controllers'.
- Right click on the one named something like 'DP-201' and select properties (If this is not present, either the pen is not docked, or the driver is not installed)
- Open tab 'Driver'.
- Select 'Uninstall'.
- Done
Overview
Starting with penDirector 2.1, Anoto released a new USB driver used for communication with our digital pens. This new driver cannot co-exist with the old driver used for example in penDirector 1.4 and penUpgrader 1.x.
As the USB driver used for connecting to the digital pen is used by several of Anoto’s products, it is important that all products that are based on the old driver are uninstalled prior to installing penDirector 2.x and other products based on the new driver. When all products based on the old driver are uninstalled, the old driver itself is uninstalled.
