AP-701C-M - My pen cap has pulled out my magnetic USB connector

Question

I use the USB cradle with my AP-701C-M pen. After I undocked the pen, I removed the pen cap to start writing and pushed it down onto the back of the pen. As I finished, I removed the pen cap from the back of the pen but due to the magnetic forces, it has removed the magnetic USB connector (for the cradle) from the back of the pen and it is now stuck inside the pen cap. What can I do?

Answer

It must be noted that the pen cap should not be placed on the back of the pen (and pushed down fully) whilst there is another accessory attached. This could potentially result in the magnetic USB connector becoming dislodged from the pen and remaining behind in the pen cap. It will remain stuck to the end of the pen cap due it getting attached to the magnet in the pen cap.

Magnetic USB connector stuck in the pen cap

Once this happens, you would either need to revert to using a standard microUSB cable to support the stroke data transfer (and charging), as the cradle will not longer be usable without the magnetic connector.

Or you would need to somehow crack open the pen cap (without damaging the magnetic connector) in order to remove it and insert back into the pen. This will result in you being able to use the cradle again but please note that without a pen cap, the pen will not be able to turn off completely, so battery consumption will be increased, resulting in more frequent charging.

Dismantled pen cap

NOTE: This issue does not qualify the pen to be replaced under warranty, as this is classed as 'misuse'. The pen cap can only successfully be placed and removed from the back of the pen when there is no other accessory attached.
