Background
Citrix is a world leader in desktop and application virtualisation technologies using products such as XenApp, XenDesktop and XenServer. Using these systems, organisations can benefit from cost savings due to consolidation and centralised management and support of IT infrastructure and applications. Citrix has grown on the basis of this visionary idea to become a multi-billion dollar company today.
One of the many challenges involved with the deployment of a Citrix environment, is understanding how peripheral equipment will work when the primary workplace many products are designed for is the physical world, not the ‘virtual’. In previous iterations, Citrix developed advanced USB emulation which allowed locally connected ‘simple’ devices to be seen on the host server. However, any device with a more complex connection protocol was not guaranteed to co-operate and renders them unviable for use in a Citrix environment.
Anoto Live™ Remote Access SDK for Citrix
To counter the issues around working with USB devices, Citrix have implemented several technologies into the XenApp and XenDesktop system which provide service such as USB emulation and a Virtual Serial Channel. In order to support these environments, Anoto have launched the Live™ Remote Access SDK for Citrix 1.0.0.24 (part of the Base Kit for Citrix) which when used in conjunction with the Live™ SDK for Windows version 1.1.0 or greater, is capable of providing the following support for Live Pen™:-
Citrix XenDesktop
- Live Pen™ 1 using USB Port Redirection
- Live Pen™ 2 via Citrix Virtual Channel
Citix XenApp
- Live Pen™ 2 via Citrix Virtual Channel
